WHAT’S NEW

Calling all screw machine operators

We are still looking for qualified screw machine operators. We are certainly not the only ones but we have the work, we just need to the people!

We are at full capacity in 3 of our departments: Swiss CNC, Davenport and Acme. We have added new machines to these departments in the last 2 months and personnel as well. However, and oddly enough, our Hydromats sit empty. This is most likely due to the need for high volume on these machines but none the less they are still temporarily idle. Stay tuned!

Conditional approval received

Gent Machine had our annual ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 audit last week and we received conditional approval. We have the priviledge to continue to serve the automotive industry.

Around 4pm on January 29th a truck driver wiped out the West entrance fence. Instead of taking a conservative approach and entering from the East, the driver came from the West and thought he could make the turn. He could not and his flat bed hit the support post and tore it out of the ground, tore off the sliding gate door and sent chainlink and posts flying. Thankfully this was all of the damage he caused but the craziness continued. He needed 3 people to then help him navigate the parking lot and then 3 more to help him back out of the receiving garage.

Needless to say, we hope we don’t see him driving a truck ever again.

Hydromats Empty

It is official, both of our Hydromats are sitting idle right now. Due to a slow down of one customer we recently shut down our Hydromat Epic 45/16. It will not sit idle forever but we are searching for work for both our Epic and Legacy 45/16 machines.

Gent Machine has gained a new customer where the parts must be assembled. First off, the parts are precision machined on our CNC swiss machines and then cleaned and sent for Eddy Current testing. This will verify that the surface of the parts are defect free. Then the parts receive a anodized coating for visual appeal. Then comes the assembly process where we place an electrical battery contactor in the part and then use a rubber bumper to secure it in place. Next, a thin cable is cut to 7 inches long and looped around the head of the part and pulled tight to ensure no more than .150″ of slack. The cable is crimped using a special fixture fitted to a hand press and the cable is secured to the part. We test this cable with 20 pounds of force. This part is a cap for a battery case which can be subjected to harsh situations.

The sales group at Gent Machine has seen an increased number of inquiries requiring secondary processes. In order to field these inquiries we have invested in an Omniturn GT75. It is a single spindle CNC controlled chucking machine with a versatile gang plate. We purchased it with an NSK live spindle and as a turnkey machine which drills an eccentric hole in a hex part for the oil industry. Once the hole is drilled, our assembly department then press fits a copper pin through the hole. Since then we have purchased a second NSK live spindle to spot the hole before drilling through and therefore increase our output. We can never have too low of an output!

This past May (2018) marked our one year anniversary in our new facility. Our growth continued by adding 2 more Acme machines and a beefed up staff to keep them runnning.

You will now notice 8 Acme machines instead of the original 6.

In addition, we’ve added a second Hydromat, shown below in Blue.

This is a Legacy machine, 16 station with a 45mm capacity. It is not full CNC like the maroon Epic machine but it is hydraulic and fully rebuilt.

Depeding on current personnel, we plan to continue to add to our workload and not let up.

Second Hydromat up and running

With our move to the new facility, we gained an extra 32,000 square feet of space. This has allowed us to position equipment and stock in the most effective positions and has also allowed us to bring in new equipment. Our newest piece of equipment is a rebuilt Hydromat 32/4-16…

With our move to the new facility, we gained an extra 32,000 square feet of space. This has allowed us to position equipment and stock in the most effective positions and has also allowed us to bring in new equipment.

Our newest piece of equipment is a rebuilt Hydromat 32/4-16 machine. Similar to our Hydromat Epic, this gives us 16 stations to place tools in order to maximize cycle time but this machine is hydraulic rather than CNC controlled. We purchased this machine to produce a 1.100″ diameter part that is 3″ long. It is a bar fed machine but already we are looking to change it to load a slug that will be produced by a cold header. Stay tuned on this project.
