We have beefed up our secondary department in order to handle customer needs for parts that require 2 operations. We have 2 Model “B” Davenport chuckers, Brown & Sharpe turret lathes, Snow machine drill and tapping machines, Haskins drilling and tapping machine and an Omniturn GT-75. The Omniturn has added a level of CNC controlling to our secondary equipment which allows us to have greater control of our secondary processes.
Secondary machines are used to perform operations that couldn’t be done in the primary process. We typically reserve secondary work for current customers but we’ll certainly entertain large volume orders if a new customer is in need of slotting, threading, tapping, drilling, knurling, turning, etc. One of Gent Machine’s first machines was a Warner & Swasey multiple spindle lathe. The Warner & Swasey is a 5 spindle lathe, like the Davenport, but has a much larger capacity at 1 ¾” stock. Similar to the rest of the secondary department, we reserve the Warner & Swasey for repeat customers. However, again, we wouldn’t turn away large volume orders from new customers.
To help make our jobs and plant run more efficiently we house 2 Monarch lathes, a Cincinnati grinder, a Bridgeport mill and surface and belly grinders. These machines are necessary for tool alteration, tool sharpening, machine support, product separation, and a multitude of other things that ensure jobs are ready to run when needed.
