Acme Screw Machines

Our Acme screw machine department is now home to Eleven (11) Acme machines. The 6-spindle Acme is a nice compliment to the smaller 5-spindle Davenport. There are even 8 spindle Acme machines but we don't have any, only 6 spindle. Our Acme machines can handle larger diameter parts up to 2”. This increased our capacity from 7/8” therefore allowing us to better serve our customers.

We purchased three different size RA-6s. We have one – 1”, four – 1 ¼” and one – 2” capacity machines. The Acme machine is similar to the Davenport in that it is a CAM machine, but instead of 5 spindles the Acme has 6 spindles. The side working tools are on independent CAMs but the end tools are on one shared main slide. This limits the Acme more than the Davenport which translates to sometimes slower cycle times. However, the machine casting is large and sturdy, more so than the Davenport, allowing for heavy cuts which is a challenge on the smaller Davenport. It also has a large work area so chips rarely pack up on tools. This means materials like 6061 aluminum or 303 stainless have places to fall. Overall, this was a purchase that brought Gent Machine on par with most of our competitors. We can now handle 95% of all CAM based screw machine parts in the industry.

To compliment our Acme production, and in some cases, improve our capability we have partnered with Northern Precision Products in Leroy, Michigan to assist with our Acme screw machine parts. They have perfected the art of Acme machining.
